Since 1986 the communities of Port Alberni and Abashiri, Japan have shared a special friendship built on mutual understanding and respect.

Through frequent visitor and student exchanges this longstanding relationship has helped promote economic, educational and cultural awareness between our two cities.

This week marks 36 years since the Sister City Agreement was signed and to honour that current and past mayor(s) gathered at City Hall along side members of the Twinning Society to raise the flag of Abashiri.

1986年よりポートアルバーニ市と網走市は敬意を込め、相互理解を深めながら特別な友情を築いてまいりました。

数多くの親善訪問や青少年の教育交流を通じた長年にわたる友好関係は両市において経済的、教育的、文化的理解を促進するのに役立ちました。

今週、両市が姉妹都市提携36周年を迎えるに当たり、現市長および歴代市長がポートアルバーニ国際姉妹都市交流協会役員と共に市役所に集結し、網走市旗を市役所に掲揚しました。
